I found out today that a “chemo buddy” of mine is not doing well.  She is a year older than me and was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer last spring.  She was surprised by the diagnosis because she was not aware of any of the classic symptoms of breast cancer in her breasts.  At her first diagnosis she was told that it was stage IV and was already in her bones.  She is a married and has a 12 year old daughter.  She had been undergoing chemo treatments since late spring.  She was aware that her cancer was incurable and that the purpose of the chemo was to keep the cancer at bay and hopefully give her more time with her family.

Sadly, I found out today that she has stopped her chemo treatments because the cancer is aggressive and is not responding.  She has chosen to spend the rest of the time that she has left with her family and does not want to spend the rest of the time that she has left sick from chemo.

I am heartbroken for her, her husband, daughter, parents, and her brother.
